SHERMAN, Texas -- The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team opened competition with a pair of wins Saturday at the 'Roo Invitational hosted by Austin College in Texas. The Presidents downed Connecticut College by a 16-9 score before beating Penn State Behrend by a 20-8 margin on day one of the two-day tournament.

The Presidents earned a 16-9 victory over the Camels in the opener.
Mitchell Rubio (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Christopher Furlong (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) netted three goals apiece for the Presidents.
Caine Dusza (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) made six saves in the first half and
Isaac Kay (Aptos, Calif. / Santa Cruz) tallied five saves in the second half.
Lazar Marsenic (Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South),
AJ Alderman (Camp Hill, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) and
Andrew Edwards (Bexley, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) scored two goals apiece.
W&J 20, Penn State Behrend 8
In the second game of the day, W&J raced out to an early 6-2 lead after the first quarter versus Penn State Behrend. The Presidents scored all five goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 11-2 advantage at halftime. The Presidents scored a match-high seven goals in the third quarter as they moved the lead into double digits (18-6). Both teams scored a pair of goals in the fourth to close out the scoring.

Andrew Edwards (Bexley, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and Furlong scored three goals apiece to pace a balanced offensive effort.
Dusza started and made five saves in the first half. Kay tallied four saves in the second half as the Presidents rolled to victory.
W&J holds a 5-3 overall record and a 2-1 record in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play. The Presidents face Augustana and Austin on Sunday.
