WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The two-time defending Presidents' Athletic Conference champion Franciscan University of Steubenville Barons beat the Washington & Jefferson women's tennis team by a 9-0 score Wednesday evening at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
The closest W&J came to victory was at the fourth singles spot where
Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottsgrove) battled into a third-set tiebreaker. Kennedy dropped the initial set by a 6-2 margin before bouncing back with a 7-5 victory in the second set. Kennedy fell just short of victory, as she was edged 10-8 in the tiebreaker by Franciscan's Claire Cardie.
Victoria Wilson (Butler, Pa. / North Catholic) and
Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) provided W&J's best effort in doubles play. The duo dropped an 8-5 decision at the second doubles spot.
The Presidents travel to Latrobe, Pa. to take on Saint Vincent College on Saturday, Sept. 24. The match is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
