Presidents make an effort late but drop road matchup to Saint Vincent, 3-2

LATROBE, Pa. -- Saint Vincent College scored two goals in the first half and added one more early in the second half before hanging on for a 3-2 win over the visiting Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Latrobe, Pa.

Eduardo Richa gave SVC an early lead as he tallied an unassisted goal just 3:55 into the match. Richa played a hand in another Saint Vincent score less than four minutes later, as Jose Hurtado scored off a pass from Richa.

Saint Vincent held a 2-0 lead at halftime before scoring again early in the second half. Hurtado found the back of the net once again, scoring just 38 seconds into the second half. The Bearcats held a commanding 3-0 lead but W&J would mount a comeback attempt.

The initial W&J goal was scored by Zach Bowser (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area), which was set up by Jacob Lee (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani School) in the 65th minute. The Presidents then coupled that goal with another, which was scored in the 82nd minute by McKinley Joseph (Stamford, Conn. / King School). Ethan Bowser (McKeesport, Pa. / Elizabeth Forward) assisted the Joseph goal.

Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) ended the night with seven saves in a full 90 minutes of work for the Presidents.

The Presidents out-shot the Bearcats by a 20-15 margin (10-8 on goal) in the match. The Presidents had a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

W&J welcomes Chatham to Alexandre Stadium for a PAC conference matchup on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
