WASHINGTON, Pa -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout victory over visiting Chatham University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.
Following a 3-2 loss against Saint Vincent in their last match, the Presidents got back in the win column and look to continue that momentum this weekend with another home match. The win pushed the Presidents above .500 record overall at 5-4-0. W&J is 2-1 in PAC play.
Both the Presidents and the Cougars were aggressively attacking the goal throughout the night but only W&J was able to find back of the net. In the 27th minute,
Nolan Agostoni (Greensburg, Pa. / Latrobe) was able to take advantage of a failed clear and found an open net to give the Presidents a 1-0 advantage. Agostoni nearly scored again, striking the post with a potential highlight-reel shot attempt that hit the left post in the 62nd minute.
W&J was then able to maintain the lead after various aggressive shots on goal throughout the rest of the game with some only being saved by the goals uprights.
Will Keber (Irwin, Pa. / Norwin),
Jacob Lee (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani School), and
Claude Irankunda (Dayton, Ohio / Spring Valley Academy) did a stellar job of locking up the back line in the shutout victory. Sophomore goalkeeper
Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) completes his second shutout victory as both came during PAC play. He recorded two saves to secure the shutout.
W&J out-shot Chatham by a 9-7 (4-2 on goal) margin over the 90 minutes of play. The Presidents attempted three of the five corner kicks in the match.
The Presidents remain in Washington and will host Allegheny College in a PAC match on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m.
