WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo team opened the 2022 slate with a pair of wins Saturday at the W&J Invitational. The Presidents picked up a 12-10 win over Division I Long Island University before adding a 17-8 victory over Yale Club in action at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.
W&J 12, Long Island University 10
Mitchell Rubio (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) led W&J with four goals while a trio of Presidents scored two goals apiece. That group with two goals apiece was
Chris Edwards (Bexley, Ohio/Saint Charles Prep), Christopher Furling (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Andrew Edwards (Bexley, Ohio/Saint Charles Prep).
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/Saint Charles Prep) and
Ryan Bannon (Broomfield, Ohio/Broomfield) rounded out the scoring for W&J.
Caine Dusza (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) made 10 saves to pick up the win in goal.
W&J 17, Yale (Club) 8
Aidan Johnson (Nassau, Bahamas/Windsor),
Lazar Marsenic (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and Edwards all recorded hat tricks in the win over Yale (Club).
Alex Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Eagle Rock) and Rubio added two goals apiece. Isaaac Kay (Aptos, Calif./Santa Cruz) nade nine saves while Dzusa registered four saves.
W&J returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 4 when they take on Mercyhurst at 11:30 a.m. and Michigan State Club at 3 p.m. at the W&J Invitational.
