ALTOONA, Pa. -- An 87th minute goal helped Penn State Altoona erase a one score deficit and earn a 2-2 draw with the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team Wednesday night in a non-conference match at Spring Run Stadium.
Altoona would score the first goal of the match in the 12th minute, which was set up by three corner kicks as the Lions penetrated the Presidents defense early on.
Olivia Olsen (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) and
Kayla Daugherty (Prospect, Pa. / Slippery Rock Area) would team up for a score in the 23rd minute that allowed W&J to even the score.
Olsen finished home a shot, which was set up by a Daugherty corner kick. The match would enter halftime evened up at 1-1.
At the beginning of the second half, the Presidents used a goal by Daugherty in the 53rd minute to take a 2-1 advantage. W&J seemed poised to pick up its first win of 2022. However, a late Altoona strike evened the score in the final minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kalea Umali (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) got her first collegiate start in goal and recorded five saves in 90 minutes of work.
The Red & Black travel to Mount Union for a night match on Saturday, Sept. 10. The non-conference bout will start at 7 p.m.
