WASHINGTON, Pa. – The visiting Bethany Bison totaled 15 blocks in a 3-0 sweep of the Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team Tuesday evening in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
The loss drops W&J to 1-1 in the conference and 8-10 overall. Bethany improves to 2-1 in the PAC and 13-5 overall.
Bethany took the match via set scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-17.
The Bison led the entire way in the first set as their strong net presence forced W&J to commit 10 attack errors. W&J took an early lead in the second set but could not sustain the momentum. The Bison regain controlled and tallied the final the final five points of the set.
Bethany forged an early 9-4 lead in the third set. W&J battled back with five-straight points to even the score. A pair of blocks by
Lizzie Carmichael (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) helped make it 9-9. With the score tied at 11, the Bison used a spurt to push in front by a 17-14 margin. Bethany handled business from there, as they coasted to the 25-17 set three victory to secure the sweep.
Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) tallied a team-high six kills in the loss. Carmichael finished with three blocks.
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin E. Logan) tallied a team-best 13 assists.
Bella Anzevino (Brunswick, Ohio/Buckeye) produced 14 digs.
W&J travels to Grove City for a league match on Thursday, Oct. 12. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m. with a junior varsity to follow.
