BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper
Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) made seven saves and the defensive unit helped the Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team battle to a 0-0 draw with Geneva College Saturday evening in Beaver Falls.
The draw puts W&J at 3-1-3 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and 8-2-4 overall. Geneva moves to 3-3-1 in the conference and 4-7-2 overall.
The two teams entered the match looking to get a leg up in the chase for one of the six spots in the upcoming PAC Tournament, which begins later this month. The draw left W&J in fifth place with 12 points. Geneva is tied for sixth with 10 points.
Hipkins made three saves during the first half. W&J put two shots on goal during the first 45 minutes. Those shots were by
Ana Maria Duenas (Quito, Ecuador / University San Francisco De Quito) and
Dove Corrette-Bennett (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock).
Duenas and
Audrey Chapman (Elkins Park, Pa. / Phil-Mont Christian Academy) put shots on goal over the final 45 minutes. Hipkins made four additional saves to preserve the shutout and draw.
W&J has posted a PAC-leading nine shutouts this fall. Hipkins has compiled a .868 save percentage. Her seven shutouts are the most by a PAC goalkeeper.
Geneva narrowly out-shot W&J by a 13-12 margin. The GT's had a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Geneva attempted five corner kicks to two by W&J.
W&J hosts Westminster for another key PAC clash on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Start time is set for 6 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium.
