CAMBRIDGE, MASS. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo recorded a split Saturday as part of the CWPA Division III Eastern Championship hosted by MIT in Massachusetts.
The Presidents dropped the first match by a 22-7 margin to MIT. W&J rebounded later in the day to take down Connecticut College by a 11-8 score to conclude Saturday's action.
MIT 22, W&J 7
The Presidents were able to hang with MIT throughout the first quarter, as they trailed by a 4-3 margin after the first quarter. However, MIT was able to open up a 12-4 advantage at halftime with a strong second quarter.
MIT outscored W&J 10-3 in the second half as they pushed the final score to 22-7.
Aidan Johnson (Nassau, Bahamas/Windsor) and Chris Edwards (Bexley, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) led the offensive charge against MIT scoring two goals apiece in the loss.
W&J 11, Connecticut College 8
W&J would show a balanced offensive output to record the win against Connecticut College with Mitchell Rubio (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Lazar Marsenic (Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South), Johnson and Edwards all finished with two goals apiece.
W&J maintained a one-goal lead throughout the first half of the game. The Presidents held a 5-4 advantage at halftime. W&J gained some separation by extending their lead to 9-5 with goals from Edwards, Johnson, Rubio, and Miller in the third quarter.
Elijah Muzzi (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) and Alderson scored in the fourth for the Presidents. W&J was able to hold off the Camels to secure a 11-8 victory.
