W&J extends winning streak to five with sweep of Saint Vincent

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team rolled to its fifth-straight win Wednesday evening when they swept visiting Saint Vincent in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at Salvitti Family Gymnasium.

The victory improves the Presidents to 6-1 in the conference and 13-10 overall. The five-match winning-streak is the longest in conference play for W&J since concluding the 2018 regular season with eight-straight conference wins. Additionally, this is the first regular season sweep for W&J over Saint Vincent since 2018.

The loss drops Bearcats to 3-5 in league play and 9-12 overall.

W&J edged Saint Vincent by a 25-23 score in the opening set. The Presidents then claimed a 25-20 victory in the second set before rolling to a sweep behind a 25-11 score in the third set.

The Presidents used a balanced offensive effort in the win. Reigning PAC Offensive Player of the Week Sophie Little (Marysville, Ohio/Fairbanks) continued her impressive play with 10 kills on just 14 swings for a .643 hitting percentage.

Faith Fetsko (South Park, Pa./South Park) reached double figures in kills (10) and digs (13). Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) finished with eight kills while Lizzie Carmichael (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) and Rian Benz (Strongsville, Ohio / Holy Name) chipped in seven successful attacks.

Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) produced 20 assists and three service aces, which matched her season high. Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) tallied 18 assists in the victory.

Bella Anzevino (Brunswick, Ohio / Buckeye) recorded a team-high 14 digs.

The win for W&J secured a spot in the upcoming six-team PAC Tournament. With three matches remaining in the regular season, the Presidents will look to continue their winning ways as they push for positioning in the standings.

W&J travels to Franciscan University of Steubenville on Saturday, Oct. 28. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
