WASHINGTON, Pa. --
Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottsgrove) and
Riley Moore (Logan, W.Va./Logan) earned a pair of victories to help the Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team secure a narrow 5-4 victory for the over visiting Saint Vincent College Tuesday evening in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
Kennedy earned the decisive point for W&J with her victory at third singles. After dropping the first set by a 6-0 score, the senior fought back for a 6-4 victory in the second set. Kennedy and Saint Vincent's Emily Pierce then battled throughout the third set. Kennedy ultimately earned the victory with a 6-4 set win.
Moore picked up the other singles victory for the Presidents. The freshman registered a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set victory at second singles.
The Presidents swept their way through doubles play to start the match. Moore teamed with junior
Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) for an 8-2 victory at first doubles.
Eden Ma (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and
Lisha Chadda (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) won by an 8-5 score at third doubles.
Kennedy and
Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) edged the Saint Vincent tandem by an 8-6 margin at second singles to complete the doubles sweep.
The win improves the Presidents to 3-2 in conference play and 4-3 overall. The loss drops the Bearcats to 3-3 in the PAC and 6-3 overall.
W&J travels to Waynesburg University for a PAC match on Thursday, Oct. 5.
