FREDERICK, Md. --
Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) surpassed the 100 goal mark for her career and
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) reached 300 saves for her career as the Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team earned a hard-fought 11-10 win over host Hood College Saturday in Maryland.
W&J improves to 2-3 overall while Hood falls to 2-5 in 2023.
Effland and
Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) finished with six points apiece to lead the Presidents in the victory.
Effland tallied three goals and three assists. Her first quarter goal, which evened the score at 3-3, gave her 100 for her collegiate career.
Labovitz finished with a game-high four goals while adding a pair of assists. The senior now has 99 career goals of her own. Labovitz added a game-high six draw controls for W&J.
Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) finished with two goals while
Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) and
Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) added a goal apiece to round out the scoring.
Defensively,
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) finished with three ground balls each.
The two teams traded scores throughout a high-scoring first quarter. The Presidents carried a narrow 6-5 lead into the second quarter after Effland scored back-to-back goals late in the first quarter. W&J scored two of the three second quarter goals to take an 8-6 into halftime.
The two teams continued to battle throughout the second half. Hood eventually evened the score at 10-10 with just 4:33 to play.
Labovitz tallied the game-winning goal for W&J with 4:05 remaining in the fourth. Both teams were scoreless after the Labovitz goal, which allowed W&J to register the victory.
Brown finished with 10 saves to pick up the win in goal.
