Lucas nets four goals, Bracco makes 12 saves as Presidents win at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio --  Parker Lucas (Delmar, Del. / Delmar) netted a game-high four goals to power the Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team to an 8-5 win Wednesday at Hiram in non-conference play.

A first quarter goal by Lucas gave the Presidents an early 1-0 lead after the opening frame. Lucas scored off a pass from Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity) early in the second quarter. After a Hiram score 54 seconds later, Shook found the back of the net later in the second to give W&J a 3-1 advantage at halftime.

Lucas opened the third-quarter scoring with his third goal. His unassisted tally made it 4-1 Presidents just 20 seconds into the the third quarter. Hiram registered back-to-back goals to close the deficit to 4-3 at the 8:43 mark of the third. However, Aidan Herman (West End, N.C. / Pinecrest) and Carter Watts (Gilbertsville, Pa. / Boyertown) answered with consecutive scores to help W&J carry a 6-4 lead into the fourth.

Hiram trimmed the deficit to 6-5 with a goal early in the fourth. W&J was able to nail down its victory with unassisted goals by Herman and Lucas down the stretch.

Noah Bracco (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) continued his strong work in goal. The freshman finished with 12 saves, which marks his fourth-straight outing with double-digit saves.

W&J won 11-of-17 face-off attempts on the night. Ronin Keane picked up eight wins in 14 tries. Levi Krebs (Sewickley, Pa./Pine Richland) had six caused turnovers.

The win improves the Presidents to 3-2 overall. They will host Mount Union on Saturday, March 11 at Alexandre Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
