Winning streak reaches seven for Women’s Lacrosse

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) scored five goals and Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) recorded eight points as the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak with a 17-10 win over Chatham Wednesday night at Graham Field.

The win improves the Presidents to 4-0 in the PAC and 8-3 overall. The loss drops the Cougars to 3-1 in the conference and 7-2 overall.

Uhler scored three times in the opening quarter as W&J overwhelmed Chatham over the opening 15 minutes of play. Six different Presidents scored in the first, which included a trio of newcomers, Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley), Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) and Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy).

W&J continued to hold a sizable lead in the second quarter and stretched the advantage to eight by halftime. A goal apiece by Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) and Effland over the final 15 seconds of the first half made it a 12-4 lead at the break for W&J.

The Presidents led by at least six goals for the entire second half. The lead reached its largest at nine on two occasions including when Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) made it 14-5 with 6:44 to play in the third quarter.

Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md. / La Plata) recorded 13 saves to pick up her eighth win of the season. Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) finished with four ground balls and a team-best three caused turnovers. Labovitz added four draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

W&J held team advantages in shots (40-29), successful clears (20-15) and ground balls (32-30).

The Presidents host Franciscan University of Steubenville for Senior Day on Saturday, April 15. The match time is now scheduled for 2 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium.
