WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's tennis team registered a 6-3 win over visiting Waynesburg University in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
The win improves the Presidents to 2-4 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets remain winless in league action as they fall to 0-6.
W&J picked up wins at the second and third doubles positions to open the day with a 2-1 lead. The tandem of
Jackson Akers and
Connor Simms won by an 8-2 margin at the No. 2 spot while
Nate Clarke and
Jaren Thimons claimed an 8-4 decision at the No. 3 position.
The Presidents claimed victories in five of the six singles contests.
Alex Duing won by a 6-1, 6-2 margin at the No. 2 position. W&J claimed each match in the four through six positions. Clarke won by a 6-4, 7-5 tally at number four while Simms eased his way to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the five spot. Thimons completed a 2-0 day with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number six.
W&J will play its fourth match in five days when it hosts Franciscan University on Saturday, April 15. Start time has been adjusted to 12 p.m.
