WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College softball team dropped both ends of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at Waynesburg University. The Yellow Jackets took the front end of the doubleheader 9-1 in six innings before tacking on a 6-0 game two victory.
The losses drop W&J to 1-7 in PAC play and 7-13 overall. Waynesburg stays perfect in conference play, as they improve to 8-0 in the league and 17-3 overall.
Game 1 - Waynesburg 9, W&J 1 (6 Innings)
Waynesburg scored early and often in the opener. The Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on four more in the third inning to take control of the contest.
W&J scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning.
Julia DiPietro-Harvey (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) walked and later scored on a sac fly by
Peyton Eckenrode (York Haven, Pa./Northeastern).
Kasey Scears (Washington, Pa./Chartiers Houston) and
Emily Schmucker (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) also had hits in the inning.
Waynesburg tacked on the game's final run in the top of the sixth. That run allowed them to end the game after six innings of play.
Julia DiPietro-Harvey was the lone President to reach base multiple times in game one.
Jordan Hinz (Ellictot City, Pa./Centennial) started in the circle, worked 2.2 innings and suffered the loss. Schmucker came on in relief and allowed just one run over the next 2.2 innings.
Game 2 - Waynesburg 6, W&J 0
Waynesburg scored a pair of runs in the first, third and fifth innings to secure the sweep.
W&J was unable to get anything going offensively. The Presidents managed just two hits in game two. Scears and
Izzy DiPietro-Harvey (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) accounted for the hits.
Sydney Petrowski (Lemont Furnace, Pa./Connellsville) started in the circle and was tagged with the loss.
The Presidents' defensive struggles continued. W&J committed seven errors on the day.
