NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team opened its 2023 season with a 1-0 win on the road against Muskingum University in a non-conference game in Ohio. The win was the first as leader of the Red and Black for first-year head coach
Dan Dubois.
The win was the first in a season opener for W&J since the 2016 season.
W&J jumped out to a first half lead when junior
Skylar Bibbee (Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) scored her first collegiate goal in the 17th minute of play. Bibbee was able to gain position just in front of the net and scored off an assist from senior
Kayla Daugherty (Prospect, Pa. / Slippery Rock Area).
The Presidents carried that lead into halftime and made it hold up through a scoreless second half of play.

Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) made three saves over the 90 minutes of action for the shutout.
The back line of
Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley),
Makenna Mann (Herndon, Va./South Lakes),
Tori DeVere (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Courtney Actis (Bechtelsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) helped Hipkins post the shutout.
Bibbee, who competed for the W&J women's basketball team the past two years, put together a memorable debut with the women's soccer program Friday evening. Bibbee finished with a team-high four shots.
Kendall Obley (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) and
Audrey Chapman (Elkins Park, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) registered three shots apiece.
The Red and Black out-shot the Muskies by a 16-7 margin. W&J had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
W&J travels to La Roche University for a 1 p.m. non-conference on Sunday, Sept. 3. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
