WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over visiting Thiel College Wednesday evening at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
The Presidents improve to 1-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and 2-1 overall. Thiel drops to 0-2 in the conference and 0-4 overall.
W&J swept its way through doubles play with relative ease.
Pooja Potluri (West Fargo, N.D. / West Fargo) and
Eden Ma cruised to an 8-0 win at third doubles.
Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton) and
Riley Moore (Logan, W.Va. / Logan) posted an 8-2 victory at first singles while
Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottsgrove) and
Lisha Chadda (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) picked up the 8-2 win at second doubles.
The Presidents claimed each of the six singles matches to ensure the shutout victory. Moore battled back for a victory in a third-set tiebreaker at second singles. After dropping a 7-5 decision in the opening set, Moore breezed through set two by a 6-1 margin. In the third set tiebreaker, Moore edged her opponent by a 10-8 score.
Pulicherla, Kennedy, Ma, Chadda and
Isabella Naddeo (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan) all won in straight sets in singles play.
W&J returns to action Saturday, Sept. 16 when they will host Westminster for a 1 p.m. match.
