Men's Soccer shuts out Thiel in PAC opener

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Ethan Bowser (Elizabeth, Pa. / Elizabeth Forward) buried a pair of penalty kick goals and Jimmy Gogol (Reistertown, Md. / Westminster) tallied an insurance goal to help guide the Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team to a 3-0 blanking of homestanding Thiel College in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener for both teams Wednesday evening in Mercer County.

The win moves the Presidents to 2-3-1 overall while the Tomcats fall to 1-6-1 overall.

Bowser put the Presidents on the board first with a goal late in the first half. The Presidents notched the 1-0 lead in the 41st minute of play when Bowser tallied his second goal of the season.

W&J remained in possession of a one-goal lead throughout a good portion of the second half until the Presidents were awarded another penalty kick in the 80th minute of play. Like he did in the first half, Bowser finished off the chance and stretched the lead to 2-0.

Gogol tacked on an insurance goal for the Presidents in the closing minutes of play. The freshman notched his second goal off an assist from Bowser in the 86th minute.

W&J held a slight edge in shots (15-14). The Presidents also held a decided advantage in corner kicks (7-2).

Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) played all 90 minutes in goal to pick up the victory.

The Red and Black welcomes Saint Vincent for a league match on Saturday, Sept. 23. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium.
