WASHINGTON Pa. - A goal in the 53rd minute helped visiting Saint Vincent break a tie and beat the Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team by a 2-1 score Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.
The loss drops the Presidents to 5-2-1 overall, 1-1-0 in conference games this year. The win improves the Bearcats to 5-3-0, 1-1-0 in PAC play.
Both teams were shutout by the other until the 41-minute mark when visiting Saint Vincent would tally an unassisted goal by Lexi Durkacs.
Almost three minutes later, junior Skylar Bibbee (Fairfax, Va. Chantilly) would find the back of the net to put the Presidents even with the Bearcats just before halftime.
Bibbee led the offense with the Presidents only goal of the game. However, Kayla Daugherty (Prospect, Pa. Slippery Rock Area), Makenna Mann (Herndon, Va. South Lakes), and Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa. Cumberland Valley) all made notable efforts having all tallied two shots on goal to pace the Red & Black in that aspect.
Senior goalkeeper Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./ Canon-McMillan) recorded four saves in 90 minutes of action in net.
W&J is back in action Wednesday when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa.to face Chatham in their next conference matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM.
