PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team traveled to Pittsburgh for a Presidents' Athletic Conference match against the host Chatham Cougars Wednesday evening. The two teams battled for a full 90 minutes but neither team was able to find the scoring touch in a scoreless draw at UPMC Graham Field.
W&J held an 11-5 advantage in shots which included a 9-2 advantage in the first half. Chatham attempted seven of the eight corner kicks on the night.
The Presidents had three shots on goal in the first half as they controlled play early on. However, W&J was unable to take advantage of its opportunities as things were scoreless at halftime. The Cougars were able to battle the Presidents more evenly in the second, as was evident by their 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Perhaps W&J's best chance at scoring came on a header by sophomore
Kendall Obley (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) in the 74th minute. However, Obley's header just missed the mark left of the goal.
Senior
Kayla Daugherty (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) registered three shots while junior
Skylar Bibbee (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) tallied a pair of shots.
Senior goalkeeper
Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) made one save in the 90 minutes of action.
W&J will look to return to the win column when they travel to Allegheny College for another conference match on Saturday, Sept. 30. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m. on the Blue Turf in Meadville.
