MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Washington and Jefferson College women's soccer team recorded their third shutout victory of the season as they posted a 1-0 victory over Allegheny College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Saturday in Crawford County.
The Presidents would waste little time finding their first and only goal, scoring mere minutes into the game. Peyton Behling (Annapolis, Md. / Severn School) would score in the third minute of play for the lone goal of the match. Behling's shot blasted off the cross bar and into the net to give W&J the 1-0 edge over host Allegheny.
Both teams would put up six shots in the first half of play and W&J would hold the slight advantage in corner kicks (1-0).
Neither team would find the net in the second half although both teams were presented with opportunities.
The Gators would have seven corner kick opportunities, as compared to the Presidents two, and eight shots but they were unable to put any of them past junior goalkeeper Kalea Umali (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler).
Umali logged all 90 minutes in net and made five saves to record her first collegiate victory.
Kayla Daugherty (Prospect, Pa. / Slippery Rock Area) would pace W&J with three shots. Five different Presidents put a shot on goal in Saturday's game.
W&J is now 6-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the PAC. Just a month into the season, the six wins is already more than the Presidents finished with last fall.
The Red & Black will return to Alexandre Stadium for a Presidents' Athletic Conference match versus Waynesburg on Wednesday, October 4th. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
