Chadda, Ma pick up singles wins as Presidents fall to Barons

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio --  The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to host Franciscan University of Steubenville in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Belleview Tennis Courts Tuesday evening.

The Presidents picked up a pair of wins in singles play. Lisha Chadda (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) pulled out a victory in a third set at fifth singles. Chadda dropped the opening set by a 6-1 margin before responding for a 6-2 win in the second set. Chadda topped Veronica Saunders in the decisive third set to earn the victory.

Eden Ma (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Upper St. Clair) coasted to a straight-set win at sixth singles. Ma won by a 6-2 and 6-3 score over Franciscan's Hazel Mistry.

Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) claimed the opening set at fourth singles. However, Jordan Beltavski would battle back to pick up the victory in three sets.

W&J was swept in doubles play. Chadda and Ma came the closest to recording a victory, as the duo dropped an 8-6 decision at third doubles.

The Presidents welcome Saint Vincent to the Janet Swanson Tennis Center for a conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
