Newcomers lead W&J past Pitt-Greensburg in non-conference win

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory on the road Tuesday evening at Pitt-Greensburg in a non-conference match.

The win improves the Presidents to 2-2 overall while the Bobcats dropped to 0-5.

W&J won the opening set by a 25-18 score before rolling 25-9 in the second set. The Bobcats took the third set by a 25-14 margin before the Red and Black claimed a 25-19 decision in the fourth set to finish off the victory.

Newcomers were once again the story for the Presidents. Rian Benz (Strongsville, Ohio/Holy Name) matched the team high with nine kills while also chipping in 14 digs. Sophie Little (Marysville, Ohio/Fairbanks) continued her strong play, as she added nine more kills and three service aces. Little currently leads the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a .551 hitting percentage.

First-year setter Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) tallied a team-best 18 assists in the victory. Freshman Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) added four kills and two blocks. First-year libero Bella Anzevino (Brunswick, Ohio/Buckeye) produced a season-high 20 digs to pace all players Tuesday night.

Faith Fetsko (South Park, Pa./South Park) matched Benz and Little with nine kills. The trio gave W&J a well-rounded offensive effort in the victory.

W&J travels to the Wilmington College Quaker Classic this upcoming weekend. The Presidents will face Oglethorpe on Friday before facing Blackburn and WIlmington on Saturday.
