STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – In their second Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup of the season, the Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team was shutout, 4-0, by the Franciscan Barons Tuesday evening.
The Presidents now shift to 3-6-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play following the loss.
The Barons pulled out to a 1-0 lead at the back end of the first half of play, scoring on a shot from the right side of the penalty box. In the first half, the Barons managed to outshoot the Presidents 9-5. The upper hand W&J held was their accuracy, launching four of the five first half shots on target to Franciscan's three on goal.
The Barons maintained their first half momentum, creating three game-sealing goals in the second half. The Presidents only managed to line up one shot from
Aiden Marks (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) in the half that missed its mark. The Barons outshot the Presidents 13-1 in the final half of play to take the 4-0 victory.
Logen Mackey (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) led the Presidents in shots with two first half shots on goal.
Michael Ngugi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and
Justin Parker Wyatt (Coatesville, Pa./Unionville) also logged a shot on target during the first half of the matchup.
Graeme Ewart (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) logged all 90 minutes in goal for W&J, amassing four saves and picking up his second loss of the season.
The Presidents remain on the road this weekend to square off with the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. The matchup has a scheduled start time of 4:00 p.m.
