WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson Women's Soccer team dropped to 4-7-1 on the season (1-3 in conference play) after landing on the wrong side of a 5-0 decision to visiting Allegheny at Alexandre Stadium.
Allegheny scored in the 22
nd and 24
th minutes to gain a 2-0 lead before scoring their final goal of the first half in the 43
rd minute of play to head into the second 45-minute half with a 3-0 advantage. The Gators went on to add two more goals in the second half to overpower the Presidents 5-0.
W&J's two closest goal attempts were made in the final ten minutes of play. The first close call was made by Sophomore
Dove Corrette-Bennett (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) in the 74
th minute of play. Corrette-Bennett blasted a shot to the upper left of the goal, narrowly missing and ringing off the post before glancing back out.
The second opportunity for the Red & Black was in the 82
nd minute of play when
Audrey Chapman (Elkins Park, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) sent up a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper and down to the foot of
Maura Heberle (Hookstown, Pa./South Side Beaver). Heberle then put up a shot to no avail as the congested goalkeepers box aided to yet another save by the Gator goalie to preserve the Allegheny shutout.
W&J held the advantage in shots 26-19 (12-11 on goal) and corner kicks, 8-6.
Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) recorded six saves in the loss with a full 90 minutes of work.
Washington & Jefferson returns to the home pitch on Saturday (Oct. 12) to take on the Chatham Cougars in their fifth PAC conference bout. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
