Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Giering Nets Game Winner Against Earlham, 1-0

RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Washington & Jefferson College Field Hockey team picked up their second-straight victory over the Earlham Quakers, 1-0.

The Presidents move to 3-7 on the season and 3-3 within North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Both teams kicked off the game trading offensive drives to no result. Earlham found two corner opportunities while W&J couldn't draw a corner. The Quakers also held a one shot advantage on total shots in the first quarter.

W&J logged the game-winning goal within the first two minutes of the second quarter. Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) netted a solo goal following a W&J corner opportunity input by Camryn Cresci (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont), heading into the half, 1-0.

The stout W&J defense limited the Quakers to one shot and zero corners in the second half to secure the 1-0 victory.

Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) logged the full 60 minutes in goal with one save. Erhard added her third win of the season and first collegiate shutout.

W&J remains in Indiana to face DePauw Sunday (Oct. 13) in more NCAC play. The bout is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
