GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team wrapped their trip to Indiana with a shutout loss to DePauw, 8-0.
W&J shifts to 3-8 on the season and slips below .500 with a 3-4 record in North Coast Athletic Conference play. DePauw moves to 8-4 overall and 6-0 in NCAC play.
The Tigers got to the scoring column early and often, netting three goals in the first quarter and one in the second quarter. DePauw outshot W&J 10-4 in the first half. The Presidents managed to edge the Tigers in corners in the opening half 5-4, but to no avail.
The DePauw offense tacked on three additional goals in the third quarter with their final goal hitting the back of the cage in the final quarter of play. The Presidents got outshot 19-5 and 15-3 on goal throughout the bout.
Camryn Cresci (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) and
Lindsey Blount (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) both led the team in shots with two total and one on target.
Jessica Nakanishi (Susanville, Calif./Lassen) also dialed up a shot on goal in the outing.
Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) logged 45 minutes of work in goal, tallying six saves.
Gillian Meaney (Milford, Mass./Milford) recorded the final 15 minutes in goal, picking up her first collegiate save.
The Presidents travel back to home to Washington to faceoff with Kenyon this Wednesday (Oct. 16), at Cameron Stadium. The matchup has a scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m.
