WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team opened their two-game homestand with a shutout loss to the Kenyon Owls, 7-0.
W&J shifts to 3-9 on the season and 3-5 record in North Coast Athletic Conference play. Kenyon moves to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in NCAC play.
The Owls scored early and often, scoring two quick goals in the first quarter. Kenyon added three more in the second quarter to take a 5-0 lead into the half. The Owls outshot the Presidents 11-2 in the first half while W&J held the advantage in corners with four to Kenyon's two.
Kenyon tacked on two more goals in the second half to secure the 7-0 shutout victory. The Owls outshot the Presidents 16-6 (12-3) on the outing. Kenyon also compiled the most corner opportunities with seven to W&J's six.
Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) led the team in shots with three and shots on goal with two.
Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) logged the first 30 minutes in goal with four saves.
Kaitlyn Wildermuth (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) collected the remaining thirty minutes and recorded her first collegiate save.
The Presidents complete their two-game homestand this Saturday (Oct. 19), with a matchup against Ohio Wesleyan. The matchup has a scheduled start time of 12:00 p.m.
