WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the visiting Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops Saturday afternoon. The midday day also doubled as the Presidents' Senior Recognition Game in honor of the team's two seniors,
Camryn Cresci (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) and
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck).
The Bishops gained an early lead when an OWU forward was able to find the back of the net in the 2nd minute of play. The stout W&J defense held the top NCAC team to a 1-0 score heading into the half.
Neither team would see another score until the final quarter of play. Two different Bishops would net insurance goals in the 49
th and 52
nd minute of play to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage.
W&J remained scoreless in the fourth after letting the second and third Ohio Wesleyan goals slip by, dropping the bout with a final score of 3-0.
OWU cornered the market in shots racking up 22 total shots while W&J was unable to get off a single shot in the 60 minutes of play.
Kaitlyn Wildermuth (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) manned the goal for the majority of the game picking up the first 52:05 of the game before
Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./ Cumberland Valley) relieved Wildermuth for the final 7:55 of the game. Wildermuth tallied 10 saves in her first collegiate start.
The Presidents are granted a quick break before returning to the field as they look to venture to Granville, Ohio next on Saturday (Nov.2) to take on the Denison Big Red in their final matchup of the season. The bout has a scheduled start time of 11:00 a.m.
