Men's Water Polo Splits Saturday Action

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team split a pair of games on day one of the weekend action at Henry Memorial Natatorium.

W&J 19, Wheaton 12
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) made the difference in the first game scoring seven of the Presidents 19 goals, including a hat trick in the final quarter of play.

Both teams had a strong first quarter showing, battling to a 5-4 score in favor of Wheaton at the end of the first eight minutes.

W&J then dominated the second quarter of the game, shutting out Wheaton while tallying four more goals to put the Presidents up 8-5 heading into the half. Dillon Parker (Nipomo, Calif./Central Coast New Tech) scored a pair of goals in each of the first two quarters to pace the Presidents offensively in the first half of play.

W&J limited Wheaton to just three goals in the third quarter and four in the final eight minutes of play while posting three in the third and six in the fourth to end the contest in a 19-12 victory.

Augustana 23, W&J 6

The Presidents were able to hang with Augustana throughout the first eight minutes, as they trailed by just a 6-2 margin after the first quarter. However, Augustana was able to open up a 12-4 advantage at halftime with a strong second quarter.

Augustana outscored W&J 9-2 in the second half as they pushed the final score to 23-6.

Brody Souder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) notched a goal in each of the first three quarters to pace the Presidents offense in the final outing of the evening. Two goals from Miller and a tally from Parker would account for the other three scores of the game.

Up Next: W&J will go head-to-head against Austin and Penn State Behrend tomorrow to wrap up the weekend action. The matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
