NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team dropped a closely contested Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals matchup to the Westminster Titans, 5-2.
The loss brings the team's seventh-straight PAC Tournament run to a halt, finishing 7-6 overall on the fall season. Westminster's win marks the third-straight year the Titans have knocked the Presidents out of the PAC tournament.
The Presidents were swept in the doubles matches, dropping the first team point of the match.
Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) and
Mackenzie Gumto (Renfrew, Pa./Knoch High School) fought to a 6-3 decision at No. 2 doubles.
Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and
Paisley Cole (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna High School) lost their No. 3 doubles match, 6-2.
W&J saw their only success in the singles matches, picking up two total victories just short of the four needed to take their first win over the Titans since 2021.
Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) picked up the first win of the day for the Presidents at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-4 win.
Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) recorded the team's last victory on the day for W&J in a 6-0, 7-5 decision.
Kennedy and Cole both gave the Presidents' comeback life after each winning their first sets 6-4 at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Kennedy went on to lose the final two sets 6-0, 6-2 while Cole dropped her finals sets in similar fashion 6-1, 6-2.
