ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision against the hosting Mount Union Purple Raiders.
W&J falls to 7-7 on the season overall in their first spring meeting of 2025. Mount Union elevates to 2-8 on the year overall.
The Purple Raiders picked up the first team point of the afternoon in doubles play, 1-0. Following a loss at No. 2 doubles,
Paisley Cole (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna High School) and
Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) won the first match of the day for the Presidents at No. 3 doubles, 7-5.
Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and
Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) dropped a tight 6-4 score at No. 1 doubles to drop the doubles team point.
W&J finished the afternoon 2-4 in singles action, edged by the Purple Raiders in the final stretch. Loomis kicked off individual play with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Mount Union responded with four straight wins to seal the match. Cole closed out the day for W&J with a win at No. 6 singles in a thrilling three-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 2-6, 12-10.
Women's tennis returns to spring play on Sunday (April 13) against the visiting Seton Hill Griffins. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
