BETHANY, W. Va. – The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team was bested by the Bethany Bison as they couldn't overcome three first-half goals by Bethany in a 3-0 setback on the road Tuesday evening at Hoag Field.
The loss drops the Presidents to 5-9-2 on the whole and 2-5-1 in PAC play. The Bison build up to a 4-3-1 record in conference play and 7-5-3 overall.
Bethany opened the game on the offensive, scoring twice in an eight-minute span netting their first goals in the 8
th and 15
th minutes of play to leap to a 2-0 lead. After the final Bison goal in the 23
rd minute of play, the W&J defense settled in and held Bethany scoreless for the final 67 minutes of the outing.
The duo of
Peyton Behling (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) and
Sydney Hoover (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) led the offensive for the Red & Black putting up three shots each in the contest. Freshman
Alexa Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./OLSH) finished close behind, tallying two shots as well.
Bethany held the advantage in shots 16-14 (9-4 on goal) and corner kicks, 6-4.
Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) recorded six saves in the loss with a full 90 minutes of work.
The Presidents return to their home pitch on Saturday (Oct. 26) for a conference showdown against Grove City at 1 p.m.
