Volleyball Mounts Reverse Sweep Victory Against Grove City, 3-2

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team won a thrilling five-set reverse sweep against the Grove City Wolverines on the Presidents' senior recognition game, 3-2.
 
The win uplifts the Presidents to a .500 overall record of 12-12 on the season and 3-4 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
 
W&J went down early in the weekend bout, dropping both of the opening sets, 26-24, 25-19. In the first set, the Presidents built a 24-21 lead that was quickly ravaged by the Wolverine offense, scoring the final five points.  In the second set, Grove City took an early 7-3 lead that was too much to overcome for W&J.
 
The Red & Black flipped the switch in the third set, growing an early 10-7 lead off kills by Sophie Little (Marysville, Ohio/Fairbanks) and Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park). After trading point swings, Fetsko sealed the Presidents first set victory of the day with a 25th-point kill.
 
The Wolverines built a 15-12 lead in the fourth set with hopes to close out the bout. The opposing lead was held until W&J mounted three-consecutive points to gain their first lead of the set, 19-18. Beyoncé Pierce (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) logged kills to push the Presidents to 24 points before Fetsko sealed the second-straight set victory for W&J will another kill, 25-23.
 
During the fifth and final set, W&J and Grove City matched each other's output, tied at seven. A kill by Little sparked a four point swing in favor of the Presidents. With W&J holding a 13-10 lead, Fetsko and Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) logged the final two kills to close out the victory.
 
Fetsko and Little led the Presidents offensively with 17 and 16 kills, respectively. Fetsko also added 11 digs on the day to add another double-double t her resume. Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) led the setting room with 29 assists followed by Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) with 25.
 
Defensively, Sacramento led the way with 16 digs coupled with 15 digs posted by Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy). Oldham registered six total blocks on the day to lead the W&J front row.
 
W&J returns to Salvitti Family Gymnasium Wednesday (Oct. 30), for a PAC matchup with the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. The matchup has a scheduled opening serve of 6:00 p.m.
