Miller, Schriver Uplift Presidents past Fighting Scots, 2-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team logged their second victory in North Coast Athletic Conference play against Wooster, 2-1.

The Presidents move to 2-7 on the season overall and 2-3 in NCAC play. The win also marks the first career home victory for Head Coach Brittney Randolph as a President.

Wooster managed to start the bout with an early goal, putting the Fighting Scots up 1-0. The Presidents offense was moving, managing to create a multitude of opportunities in the circle, generating 13 corners to the Fighting Scots' one in the first quarter of action.

Off those corners the Presidents evened the score with two minutes remaining in the quarter due to a congested goal by junior Sara Schriver (Greenville, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal School) off the touch from Camryn Cresci (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont), to even the score at one. A minute later, freshman Jessica Nakanishi (Susanville, Calif./Lassen) fired in a high velocity shot off the stick of Bailey Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) to tally the game-winning goal.

W&J closed out the half, only allowing two more shots from the opposing offense. Without allowing a corner for the Fighting Scots, the Presidents managed to tack on two additional, prior to taking a 2-1 lead into the half.

The Presidents held strong in the second half, allowing just four shots total in the final two quarters. W&J again managed to outwork Wooster offensively, tallying five total corner opportunities to their three. The Red & Black held strong for the remainder of the bout to take a 2-1 win.

Miller logged her first collegiate goal of her career in the bout. Schriver logged her first of the season and third career score. Cresci and Nakanishi both set up the two scores this afternoon for W&J in an all-around effort.

Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) picked up her first collegiate home victory with a full 60 minutes in goal with five saves protecting the cage.

"Today was a great team win! I am so proud of everyone for their relentless efforts. The connections we made on the field were exactly what we have been practicing all week. We have been working on finishing and we did just that with awesome goals from Sara and Bailey (her first collegiate goal)," stated head coach Brittney Randolph. "This was our first win this season at Cameron Stadium and we are so happy we had the chance to showcase all that we have been working on for our friends, families, and fans! We will use this momentum to take us into next week as we travel to Indiana for two NCAC matchups with Earlham and DePauw!"

W&J travels to Earlham on Saturday (Oct. 12) prior to swinging past DePauw on Sunday (Oct. 13) this coming weekend. The first matchup of the weekend has a scheduled start time of 12:00 p.m. in Richmond, Ind.
