MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Washington and Jefferson College women's tennis team dropped a closely contested bout with Allegheny, 6-1.
The Presidents move to 6-5 on the season and 3-4 in conference play, dropping below .500 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
W&J dropped the first team point of the match at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, falling behind 1-0. Despite losing the team point, the tandem of
Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and
Paisley Cole (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna High School) mustered a win at No. 3 doubles, 7-5.
Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) picked up the only victory for W&J at No. 1 singles in thrilling fashion. Pulicherla traded the opening sets 2-6, 7-5, prior to winning the third-set superbreaker, 1-0 (10-7) as the Presidents sole victory that granted a team point. At No. 2 singles,
Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) fought to a close two-set loss, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
The Presidents return home to face off with the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on Thursday (Oct. 10) in their final regular season showing prior to the PAC Championships. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m.
