Pulicherla Wins Thrilling Singles Bout Against Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Washington and Jefferson College women's tennis team dropped a closely contested bout with Allegheny, 6-1.

The Presidents move to 6-5 on the season and 3-4 in conference play, dropping below .500 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.

W&J dropped the first team point of the match at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, falling behind 1-0. Despite losing the team point, the tandem of Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Paisley Cole (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna High School) mustered a win at No. 3 doubles, 7-5.

Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) picked up the only victory for W&J at No. 1 singles in thrilling fashion. Pulicherla traded the opening sets 2-6, 7-5, prior to winning the third-set superbreaker, 1-0 (10-7) as the Presidents sole victory that granted a team point. At No. 2 singles, Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) fought to a close two-set loss, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
