INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Washington & Jefferson College football, ranked No. 23 in the NCAA Power Index (NPI), will travel to No. 15 Randolph-Macon in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Football Championship on Saturday (Nov. 30), at 12:00 p.m.
Due to the new expanded field of 40 teams, both teams received byes in the first round of the playoffs. W&J will be on the road for the sixth time in its last seven first appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
This marks the 27th time appearing in the Division III postseason for the Presidents. W&J claimed their 27th Presidents' Athletic Conference championship, and the Pool A (automatic bid) that came with it, following their road victory over Allegheny, 45-0. W&J enters the postseason boasting a 9-1 overall and Presidents' Athletic Conference record.
The Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon went 9-1 during the regular season. RMC was 7-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
W&J currently holds a 4-1 (2-0 home, 2-1 away) all-time record against Randolph-Macon including an NCAA Tournament victory against the Yellow Jackets during the 1984 season. In the quarterfinals of the 1984 national tournament, the Presidents escaped with a narrow 22-21 victory to advance to the Semifinals of the tournament.Â
The Presidents last victory against RMU came during the 2000 season where W&J took a 53-12 victory in their second bout of that season.
