BETHANY, W. Va. – The Washington & Jefferson women's volleyball team bested Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action with a 3-1 come from behind four set win (22-25, 26-25, 25-18, 25-12) on the road at Hummel Field House.
With the third-consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference victory, W&J moves to 14-12 on the season and 5-4 in conference play.
After falling in the first set, The Presidents rallied the next three sets to comeback against the Bison. Set two, W&J was able to hop out to a 7-4 lead thanks to kills from
Sophie Little (Marysville, Ohio/Fairbanks),
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park), including a service ace from
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy). Bethany made a comeback tying things up at 11-11 and trading points with the Presidents before pulling ahead 15-13 and hitting the gas to gain a lead of 21-16. W&J kicked into gear however, coming all the way back to a 24-23 score in favor of the Bison before scoring the next three points to claim the set, 26-24.
Set three played out similarly, with W&J down 11-4 at the start and rallying eight-straight points to take the lead 12-11. Both teams battled for the lead, trading points until the score was tied at 16. W&J then closed out the set with kills from
Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale),
Alexandra Ash (Richmond, Ohio/Edison) and
Rian Benz (Strongsville, Ohio/Holy Name) and Little to claim a 25-18 win in set three.
From there W&J cruised to a smooth win in set four claiming a 25-12 decision. The Red & Black scored the first six-straight points of the set before growing their lead, 18-9. Bethany scored the next three points before W&J slammed the doors shut once more, tallying the next seven points to close out their 3-1 win over the Bison.
Blough led the Presidents in kills with a career high 18, including nine of W&J's 18 kills in the final set. Little posted 16 kills of her own while Benz added nine. Heading the setting room was
Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) who racked up 29 assists coupled with
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) who contributed 19.
Leading the defensive efforts was the trio of Little, Blough and Benz who tallied five, four and three blocks, respectively. McFarland led the team in digs with 40.
W&J returns home this week for a non-conference matchup with Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday (Nov. 5). The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
