Volleyball Wraps Home Regular Season Slate with Win over Pitt-Greensburg, 3-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball capped off their home regular season slate with a 3-1 win over Pitt-Greensburg. The Presidents lift their record to 15-12 overall.

W&J started the bout with an aggressive offensive attack, taking an early 10-5 lead. Kills by Lindsey Reiter (Kersey, Pa./Saint Marys Area), Rian Benz (Strongsville, Ohio/Holy Name), Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) and Sophie Little (Marysville, Ohio/Fairbanks) sparked an eight-point swing to give the Presidents a hefty 18-6 lead. Despite points tacked on late by the Bobcats, W&J did not relinquish their lead to take the first set of the bout, 25-14.

Pitt-Greensburg flipped the script on W&J, growing their own large lead, 22-13. The Presidents mounted a late comeback attempt which included two kills by Benz, but to no avail as the Bobcats won the second set, 25-22. During the set, Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) passed Andrea Motta '02 in career digs to slot into fifth all-time at W&J in career digs.

The Presidents got back on track in the third set of play with a 5-0 start. With the Bobcats offense still managing to finish points, the W&J lead was cut close at 23-21. A kill by Beyonce Pierce (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and a service ace by Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) secured the set three victory, 25-21.

The Red & Black coasted to a 25-11 set four victory to close out the midweek matchup. The Presidents took advantage of a service error early in the set to grow a 13-2 lead. Later in the set, Little capped off the outing with two consecutive kills, securing the win.

Little led the Presidents in kills with 14 on the night coupled with 10 from Benz and nine from Blough. Leading the setting room was Sacramento with 22 followed by 18 posted by Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan).

Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) posted a crucial game for W&J, leading the team in total blocks with four and hitting percentage with a .538 mark. Blough and Little also added three blocks each. McFarland held down the back row with 18 digs and has currently recorded 1456 career digs as a President.

The Presidents take on their final opponent of the regular season this Friday (Nov. 8), on the road against Geneva. Opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
