HIRAM, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College wrestling team recorded a 43-10 victory over host Hiram College Friday evening in a non-conference dual match in Ohio. 

The Presidents recorded wins in eight of the 10 matches Friday night. Five of those wins were recorded by freshmen while two of the others were picked up by sophomores. 

Securing wins by fall for W&J were Michael Cruz (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) at 125 pounds, Christian McChesney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) at 197 pounds and Trevor Manley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) at 285 pounds. 

Maxwell Jackman (West Chester, Pa. / B. Reed Henderson) secured a win by sudden victory at 141 pounds. Taylor Smith (Mifflintown, Pa. / Juniata) improved to 41-5 in his freshman campaign with a 21-6 tech. fall win at 149 pounds. 

Winning by forfeit on Friday were Daniel Verscharen (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) at 133 pounds, Bryce Rodriguez-Uram (Carnegie, Pa./Carlynton) at 157 pounds and Jaden Fields (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) at 184 pounds. 

W&J returns to competition on Friday, Feb. 16 when they host the 2023-24 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships. The annual event will be held in Salvitti Family Gymnasium and get underway at 5 p.m.
