W&J falls to Marymount in non-conference game


ARLINGTON, Va. -- A strong first half propelled the host Marymount University in a 16-11 victory over the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team in a non-conference play Wednesday in Arlington, Va.
 
Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) continued her strong senior season. Uhler led the Presidents with a team-high four goals versus the Saints. 
 
Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) registered five points (2 goals, 3 assists) in the loss. Jenkins added a team-high three draw controls.
 
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) finished with a team-high three caused turnovers. 
 
W&J held a 37-32 advantage in shots. Marymount held a considerable differential in draw controls, holding a 16-8 advantage over W&J. 
 
The Presidents opened with the game's first goal as Jenkins scored off an assist from Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley). After three-straight Saints scores, W&J netted an unassisted tally by Uhler that brought the deficit to 3-2. 

Marymount gained control of the game with the final goal of the first quarter before tacking on six-straight scores to open the second quarter. The seven-consecutive goals extended the Marymount lead to 10-2 with 2:10 left in the half. 
 
W&J countered with five-straight goals to get themselves back in the thick of things. Uhler scored twice during the run. Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), Bogats and Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) all scored during the spurt by the Presidents. 
 
The Saints put the game away with five-straight goals. Marymount scored three times over the final 1:52 of the third quarter. 
 
W&J scored four times in the fourth. The Presidents got a goal apiece from Jenkins, Holland, Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) and Uhler. 
 
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) made 12 saves in the loss. 
 
W&J concludes non-conference play at Marietta on Wednesday, March 27. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
