STEUBENVILLE, Ohio –
Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) and
Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) once again powered the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team to victory.
Both Jenkins and Kloehn scored three times as W&J raced to a 21-12 victory over the host Franciscan Barons in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at Trinity Health Systems Field in Ohio.
Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) scored a team-high five goals.
Jenkins posted a team-high nine points with three goals and six assists. Jenkins became the program's all-time leader in assists on Saturday. Jenkins, who now has 120 in her career, surpassing Caroline Kallos' record, which stood since 2018.
The win was the sixth-straight for the Presidents, who improve to 5-0 in the PAC and 6-6 overall. The Barons fall to 1-4 in the conference and 1-9 overall.
The Presidents used their high-powered offense to score eight goals in each of the first two quarters. W&J led by an 8-5 margin after the first before stretching the lead to 16-8 at halftime.
After surrendering the first two goals, W&J responded back with six-straight scores by six different Presidents. Playing a player up due to a card,
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) gave the Presidents the lead for good when her goal off an assist from
Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) made it 3-2 at the 9:51 mark.
Jenkins and Kloehn scored back-to-back off passes from one another. The scores grew the W&J lead to 6-2 with 6:48 left in the opening quarter.
Uhler and Jenkins both scored over the final 1:11 of the first quarter to allow W&J to take a three-goal lead into the second. Franciscan climbed to within one before with back-to-back goals to start the second. However, the Presidents responded with six-straight goals to swell the lead to 14-7 on a goal by Heck at the 6:09 mark. Kloehn scored twice during the offensive outburst.
Franciscan stopped the run with a goal at the 5:44 mark of the second. W&J got scores from
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) and Uhler to push the lead to 16-8 at halftime.
W&J shut out Franciscan during the third quarter. The Presidents tallied all four goals during the frame. Heck, Holland, Uhler and
Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) each scored in the third.
The Presidents held the hosts scoreless for nearly 23 minutes before the Barons ended the drought at the 13:38 mark of the fourth.
Haley Lawyer (Glenside, Pa./Archbishop Wood) closed out the scoring with a player-up goal with 34 seconds to play.
Holland filled the stat sheet. The freshman finished with four goals, an assist and three draw controls. Holland also had match highs in ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (4).
Kloehn added three assists to go along with her three goals for a six-point game.
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) made eight saves to pick up the victory in goal.
W&J travels to Westminster College on Wednesday, April 17 for a 5 p.m. match. in New Wilmington. The match will be the Presidents' last road tilt of the regular season.
