WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team stayed perfect in Presidents' Athletic Conference play with a commanding 18-3 victory over visiting Waynesburg University under sun splashed skies at Alexandre Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The win is the eighth-straight for the Presidents who improve to 8-6 overall and 7-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 1-14 overall and 0-7 in conference games.
Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and
Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) paced the Presidents with five points apiece.
Bogats had a goal and a game-high four assists. Heck scored three goals and a pair of assists.
Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) finished with three goals for her eighth-consecutive hat trick.
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) and
Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osbourne Academy) added multi-goal efforts.
Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) finished with four points. Her three assists helped her break her own school record for single season assists. Jenkins has 42 assists this season.
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) filled the stat sheet with three points, seven ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Sammy Hartz (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) had a goal, four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) made six saves in the victory.
W&J netted nine goals during the opening quarter of play. Jenkins and Heck scored and helped assist each other on the opening two goals. Holland and Kloehn each scored twice in the opening quarter of play. Stewart scored with one second left on the clock to make it an eight-goal lead after the first.
McKenzie Gensemer (Wilson, Pa./West Lawn) scored her first collegiate goal to stretch the lead to 11-1 early in the second quarter. Heck, Kloehn and Stewart scored consecutively to help W&J push its lead to 14-1 at halftime.
Three defenders scored in the second half for W&J.
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck),
Paige Howe (Bowie, Md./St. Johns) and Hartz all scored. The goals were the first of the collegiate careers for Phillips and Hartz.
W&J returns to action at home versus Saint Vincent on Tuesday, April 23. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
NOTE: During halftime of Saturday's game, W&J honored Brittney (Oake) Upman '12. Upman tragically passed away at the age of 33 from complications of a rare cancer - LMC. One of the top players in program history, Upman finished with 189 goals, 223 points and 99 caused turnovers during her career. All three totals rank among the top five in those categories in history.
