WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-5 loss to visiting Saint Vincent College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.
The loss drops W&J to 2-5 in the conference and 3-10 overall. Saint Vincent moves to 5-2 in league play and 7-8 overall.
The Presidents opened the game with back-to-back goals for a brief 2-0 lead. Unassisted scores by
Carter Watts (Gilbertsville, Pa. / Boyertown) and
Nathan Petrarco (North Huntingdon, Pa. / Norwin) came in the first 5:11 of the game. Saint Vincent responded with three-straight goals to take their first lead into the second quarter.
The Bearcats continued to build upon that momentum in the second quarter. Six-straight goals in the second swelled the visitors lead to 10-2.
Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity) finally ended W&J's scoring drought with a goal at the 2:52 mark. W&J trailed by a 10-3 margin at the break.
Saint Vincent scored all four goals in the third quarter to advance their lead to 14-3 entering the fourth.
W&J received fourth quarter goals from Shook (5:43) and Petrarco (2:19) to round out their scoring.
Petrarco led the Presidents with four ground balls.
Logan Waychoff (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) and
Austin Hopkins (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) had three caused turnovers each.
Henry Beardwood (Wilmington, Del. / Salesianum School) made 16 saves during 60 minutes of action in net.
W&J concludes the 2024 campaign with Senior Day on Saturday, April 27 versus Grove City. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. W&J will honor its seniors prior to the match.
