GREENVILLE, Pa. –
Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/ Jackson) led the Presidents with three goals, alongside six other teammates who found the back of the net to help the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse to a commanding 14-4 win over the Thiel Tomcats in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at Stoeber Field Saturday afternoon.
The win was the third straight for W&J in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, improving them to 3-0 in the PAC and 4-6 overall. The loss drops the Tomcats to 1-2 in the PAC and 5-5 overall.
W&J scored the first five goals of the match,
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) had two of these first quarter goals. Thiel scored their first goal of the game with 2:16 left making it 5-1 at the end of the first quarter.
There were five straight Presidents goals to start the second quarter.
Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio Andrews Osborne Academy) netting two of these goals. Thiel broke up the Presidents scoring streak with a goal at the 2:39 mark. Then with 53 seconds left in the quarter,
Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/ Jackson) scored off an assist from
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif. Cardinal Newman), making the score 11-2 at the half.
The Presidents started off the second half strong, scoring three goals by
Kloehn,
Holland, and
Bogats while holding Thiel scoreless in this period. The Presidents also enforced the running clock as they held a double-digit lead over the Tomcats.
The Tomcats rounded out the scoring, putting up the final two goals of the game in the fourth quarter.
Defensively,
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) finished with a team-high three ground balls. Heck and Hartz recorded two caused turnovers apiece in the victory.
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) earned the win in goal, with six saves, facing fourteen shots.
Six Presidents finished with three points in a balanced effort.
Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) recorded a team-high three assists. Saturday's game marked the fourth-straight that Kloehn recorded a hat trick.
The Presidents held advantages in shots (29-14) and draw controls (16-5).
Mya Bolinda led the team with four draw controls.
