Chapman Nets Goal in Tight Loss Against Muskingum

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team opened its 2024 season with a 2-1 loss to Muskingum University in a non-conference matchup at Alexandre Stadium. The loss in the home opener drops W&J to a 0-1 start.

Muskingum was quick to the jump on offense, scoring on two of six shots on goal in the first half. The Muskies netted the first goal of the pair in the first eight minutes and 18 seconds of the game. The second and last goal for Muskingum would follow shortly after the first, finding it's mark 12:54 into the game.

After only tallying three shots on goal in the first, W&J pushed back with 10 shots on goal in the second half. A goal by Audrey Chapman (Elkins Park, Pa. / Phil-Mont Christian Academy) helped the Presidents to cut the Fighting Muskies lead by one in the 52nd minute of play.

Chapman led the offensive energy with the lone goal for the Presidents and three shots on goal, while Skylar Bibbee (Fairfax, Va./ Chantilly) and Camille Smith (Canton, Ohio / Lake) followed with two apiece. Sydney Hoover (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Township) tallied a shot on goal as well.

Despite a second half push from the Presidents, Muskingum's early two goals would outlast the Red & Blacks' efforts.

W&J Goalkeeper Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa. / Burgettstown) made five saves while recording all 90 minutes in the net for the Red & Black.

The Presidents return to action next Tuesday (Sept. 3) on the road for a matchup against the Marietta Pioneers. The bout is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m.
