Field Hockey Upended in Sunday Matinee Against McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team traveled to Maryland this weekend where they were met with their second loss of the season.

McDaniel made their offensive prowess known in the first quarter of play logging six corners and their first goal of the game. The Presidents had a hard time moving the ball within the circle in the opening quarter and remained silenced going into the second quarter of action.

Entering the second quarter of play, the Presidents finally slipped through the cracks of the stout McDaniel defense, earning a penalty corner. Off the corner, Camryn Cresci (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) launched a shot which scurried wide of the goal. McDaniel took advantage quickly after by tacking on their second goal of the matchup to take a 2-0 lead into the half.

Out of the half, W&J managed to hold their own on defense in keeping the aggressive opposing offense from scoring in the third. The Presidents also collected their second and final corner of the game which was input by junior midfielder Bailey Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township).

W&J remained scoreless in the fourth after letting a third McDaniel goal squeak by, dropping the bout 3-0.

Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) took the loss after tallying all 60 minutes in goal with a season-best nine saves in her second outing as the Presidents goalkeeper.

The Presidents will have a quick break before returning to the field as they look to host Gettysburg next Sunday (Sept. 8). The matchup has a scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
