Erhard Tallies 15 Saves Against Aggressive Gettysburg Offense

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team hosted the Gettysburg Bullets on Sunday (Sept. 8). The Presidents were upended 3-0 after a strong showing from the W&J defense.

W&J will drop to 0-3 on the season while Gettysburg is lifted to a 3-1 record.

The first half saw no offensive action for the Presidents as they were outshot 14-0. The Bullets put up a quick goal in the first quarter of play scoring within the first three minutes of action.

Entering the second half the Presidents remained shutout from the offensive end of the field until W&J picked up their first corner opportunity. Bailey Miler (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) took the corner and managed to find the ball again after the input but to no avail, as her would-be shot was disrupted by the Bullets goalie.

With minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Presidents mounted their best offensive efforts of the game putting three shots of the four taken on target. W&J also picked up two corners as the bout came to a close.

Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) logged a career day in her third game as a President. Erhard compiled 15 saves while only allowing three shots past.

The Presidents will have another break before returning to the field as will travel to New York to face off with Houghton next Sunday (Sept. 14). The matchup has a scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
