HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College scored a goal in each half as the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team was shutout by a 2-0 score on the road.
The loss drops the Presidents to a 2-2-1 overall record while the Eagles improve to a 4-1-1 overall record.
Juniata showcased a monopoly in the shots category for the first half, putting ten shots up without allowing the Presidents one. Both teams were scoreless until the final four seconds of the first half when the Eagles 10th shot would find the back of the net for the first goal of the afternoon.
Maintaining the momentum from the last few seconds of the first half, the Eagles scored another goal in the 55th minute of play to record their final goal of the outing. The Presidents were able to put up four shots in the second half, but to no avail, as the Eagles claimed their third shutout of the season.
Juniata outshot W&J by a 14-4 margin and held a 10-4 deficit in corner kicks.
Alexa Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./OLSH) recorded the team high two shots followed by Dove Corrette-Bennett (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) and Rhyan Smith (Coal Center, Pa./Elizabeth-Forward) who each put up a shot each.
Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa. / Burgettstown) started and made five saves in 90 minutes of work in goal.
The Presidents are back in action tomorrow, Sunday (Sept. 15) on the road against Penn State Altoona. Opening kick is slated for 1:00 p.m.
